Designer / CNC Programmer
What would you be doing?
When a customer makes an enquiry, a design is produced using our CAD package, SolidWorks. Once the customer is happy, the furniture is manufactured in the workshop – all pieces are bespoke and spray finished before installing in the customer’s home. Typical day-to-day activities will include:
Designing using Polyboard
Visiting customers’ homes to survey and take dimensions
Converting survey notes and dimensions into a full 3D design
Rendering of these 3D designs into a photo realistic image
Presentation of designs to customers and liaising with them to determine their requirements and making any alterations
Producing manufacturing drawings
Keeping customer records updated on Trello, the Customer Relationship Management system
Creating nesting programs using our CNC programming software: Visualise
Purchasing of materials for projects
Researching projects
Development of design processes
What type of person are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will:
Be a graduate from any degree discipline, but graduates from design backgrounds would be particularly encouraged to apply
Have experience of using CAD packages
Have excellent attention to detail
Be a confident communicator and able to liaise with customers face to face and over the phone
Be motivated and enthusiastic to learn and progress
Be a problem solver
Be flexible to work additional hours at evenings or weekends during very busy periods
The following would be a bonus, but don’t be put off if not:
Experience or knowledge of using 3D design tools such as Polyboard, SolidWorks, Solid Edge or similar
A degree in furniture design or similar
Have a full clean UK driving licence, or willing to learn to drive, as the role occasionally requires work on customers’ sites
What are all the practical details?
Starting salary: £24,000 - £28,000 (dependent on experience)
Contract type: Permanent full-time contract, however part-time hours will be considered
Location: Unit 5, Unity Works, 329 Petre Street, Sheffield, S4 8LJ
COVID-19 Start details: You will be required to work in the workshop and in customers’ homes (following up-to-date government COVID-19 guidelines).
Transport and parking: Free parking is available. The office is serviced by bus routes and is a 5-minute walk from the nearest bus stop. There are cycle storage and shower facilities.
